Sandra Delaine Tucker
Born August 26, 1968, Tempe, AZ
Died July 23, 2025, Edmonds, WA
Sandra Delaine Tucker, 56, of Darrington, WA, died July 23, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones, after a four-year struggle with cancer. An intense lover of her family, her community, and her students, Sandi is remembered as one with a laugh that when you heard it, you were forced to turn your head, because whatever it was, you knew it was going to be funny.
She is survived by her fiancé Christopher Rigney, mom Karen Nixon, her children Megan Benson, Rion Tucker and Harrison Tucker, granddaughter Kaydence, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins, and many, many children whom she has inspired and cared for, first as a paraeducator, and then as a teacher at Darrington Elementary School.
Born August 26, 1968, in Tempe, AZ, she was raised in Arizona and Colorado, eventually making her way to the Pacific Northwest, where she found her passion for teaching and became a beloved educator. She earned her Associates degree from Pima Medical Institute, Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Education from WGU. She loved her home, her community, her students, and her garden, which, under her green thumb, provided gorgeous vegetables, delicious salsa, and colorful flowers in spring and summer.
In addition, Sandi loved crafts, specifically candle and jewelry making. She was also an athlete, participating in several running races, including the Tough Mudder in Enumclaw in 2019 with her daughter Megan, as well as a full triathlon and the challenging Grand Circle Trail Fest in Southwest Utah, which included three days and three half marathons: one in Bryce Canyon, one in Zion and one in Apple Valley.
She also enjoyed music (80s hair bands), and Melissa Ethridge’s live concerts every year. Further, she loved travel with her mom: the beaches of Mexico as a kid, and a cruise through the Adriatic Sea, from Venice to Athens. She also enjoyed her travels with her love Chris, visiting New York, Maui, Portland, and most recently their trips to see the Northwest Trolls.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at the Darrington Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org) or to the Hawaii Wildlife Fund, PO Box 790637, Paia, HI 96779.
